Karan Singh in SMK Memorial Open quarterfinals

Bengaluru, Apr 3 (UNI) Karan Singh put up a gritty display to edge past Nikita Ianin in a tense three-setter on a rain-curtailed day at the SM Krishna Memorial Open at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium here on Thursday.
With this hard-fought victory, Karan advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face top seed Jay Clarke.
Karan, the highest-seeded Indian in the tournament, overcame a stern challenge from Ianin in a gripping encounter. The Russian qualifier made a strong start, claiming the first set 6-3. However, Karan mounted a comeback, breaking in the fifth game of the second set to gain a 5-2 advantage before levelling the match.
