Maha govt seeks IT data to verify beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin Yojana

Mumbai June 3 (UNI) Amid allegations that hundreds of ineligible Mantralaya women employees are availing of the benefits of the Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme, the Maharashtra government has sought detailed information from the income tax department about women who have filed returns to ascertain their eligibility, sources in the state secretariat said on Tuesday.
“We have forwarded the request to the Finance Ministry to share the required tax payer data and ITR filed by women in the state,” said a senior tax official.
The BJP-headed Mahayuti government with allies drawn from Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar) launched the ambitious Ladki Bahin Yojana just before the 2024 assembly elections in which 2 crore 67 lakh women applied and an amount of Rs 7,500 was deposited in the account of every woman for about 5 months without any comprehensive verification.
Post-polls, the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a review of the scheme to identify ineligible beneficiaries leading to disqualification of nine lakh women from the Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme.
