Southwest Monsoon advances into Bay of Bengal, Banda hottest at 43.4 degree Celsius

Pune, May 13 (UNI) Southwest Monsoon advanced into some parts of south Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea and the Nicobar islands and some parts of north Andaman Sea on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Widespread moderate rainfall with heavy rainfall at a few places occurred over the Nicobar Islands during the past 24 hours, the IMD bulletin said.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some parts of south Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area; some more parts of South Bay of Bengal, entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands, remaining parts of Andaman Sea, and some parts of central Bay of Bengal during the next 3-4 days.
Day Temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Gangetic West Bengal; at a few places over Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, coastal Karnataka; at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe, west Uttar Pradesh.
The temperatures were markedly below normal (-5.1 or below) at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to - 5.0°C) at a few places over Gujarat state, west Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada.
The temperatures were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim; at few places over east Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Telangana, interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan and normal over the rest of the country.
On Tuesday, the highest maximum temperature of 43.4°C was reported at Banda (eastern Uttar Pradesh) in the country.
Dust storms were reported at isolated places over eastern Rajasthan (Sikar).
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and at many places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and at a few places in Gangetic West Bengal, Rayalaseema, coastal Karnataka, south Interior Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
Rain or thunderstorms have also occurred at isolated places in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat State, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, north interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Mainly dry weather has prevailed in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the IMD said.
