Johannesburg, June 17 (UNI) A bus and a truck collided head-on on the R34 near Vryheid, South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Province, on Monday, resulting in the death of 12 people, said a KwaZulu-Natal provincial government official on Tuesday.
Siboniso Duma, member of the Executive Council for Transport and Human Settlements in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, said the accident occurred around midnight on Monday.
He confirmed that ten people died at the scene, while another ten were seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals. Two more victims later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
"Based on the report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate, after the head-on collision, the truck struck the side of the bus," said Duma.
He said an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the collision.
