Almost 40 killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza on Saturday: Reports

Jerusalem, May 4 (UNI) Thirty-nine people, including three children, were killed in Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, Al Jazeera reported, citing medical sources.

According to the broadcaster, of these, 11 people, including three children, were killed in Israeli strikes on a camp for displaced persons in Khan Yunis.

According to Gaza's health ministry, more than 2,300 people have been killed in Gaza, and more than 6,000 have been injured since March 18, when Israel resumed shelling.

On the night of March 18, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) resumed attacks on Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks continued due to Hamas's refusal to accept the US plan to extend the ceasefire and free the hostages.

The truce between Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas officially ended on March 1, but fighting did not resume due to mediators' attempts to get the parties to continue negotiations on a settlement in the Gaza Strip.

However, Israel has cut off electricity supplies to the desalination plant in the Strip and closed the entry to trucks carrying humanitarian aid.
