1 killed, 1 injured in Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon

Beirut, Apr 15 (UNI) One person was killed, and another wounded on Tuesday in an Israeli drone strike targeting a pick-up truck in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese official media.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli drone targeted the village of Aitaroun in the Bint Jbeil District in the central border sector, with three guided missiles, leading to the casualty.
In a separate incident, a hostile drone dropped an explosive device on farmers near a vocational school in the village of Aita al-Shaab, also in the central sector of the border area, the NNA reported without specifying the casualty or damage.
It added that the Israeli forces also opened fire with machine guns toward the village of Mays El Jabal in southeastern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army Command's Orientation Directorate announced that, as part of efforts to combat arms smuggling along the Lebanese-Syrian border, "an intelligence patrol in the Bekaa region arrested a Syrian national involved in arms trafficking and smuggling, and seized military weapons in his possession."
It also arrested a Lebanese citizen working in coordination with the detained Syrian in operations in West Bekaa, eastern Lebanon, the army command said, noting investigations are currently underway.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and France has been in effect between Hezbollah and Israel, bringing an end to more than a year of clashes triggered by the conflict in Gaza.
Despite the truce, the Israeli army continues to carry out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, claiming to be targeting "threats" from Hezbollah. It has also maintained its presence on five hilltops along the Lebanese border, in violation of the agreement.
