Peruvian singer killed in armed assault

Lima, Mar 17 (UNI) Renowned Peruvian singer Paul Flores, a member of the cumbia orchestra "Armonia 10," died early Sunday morning, shortly after assailants attacked the band's tour bus in Lima, local daily El Comercio reported.

The attack occurred at around 2:35 a.m. local time (0735 GMT) on an avenue in the capital's El Agustino district, as the band was headed for the Casa Real de Santa Clara nightclub after performing at the El Palomar Stadium, said the report.

Flores, 39, apparently suffered two shots before being rushed to a local hospital, where he died of his wounds. His bandmates were unharmed.

Preliminary information suggests the attackers were members of an extortion ring who had previously threatened the orchestra members.

Police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department were conducting investigation on the case.
