Santo Domingo, Apr 10 (UNI) The death toll rose to 184 amid ongoing search and rescue operations after the roof a popular nightclub collapsed during a concert on Tuesday, according to the Dominican Republic Emergency Operations Centre.
The national police said at least 155 people were injured in the Jet Set nightclub roof collapse in the capital, Santo Domingo.
The incident happened around midnight when renowned Dominican merengue singer Rubby Perez was performing at the concert. Perez, 69, was found dead in the collapsed club, according to the national police.
“We deeply regret the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub,” the Dominican Republic President said in a social media post.
He informed that he has been closely following the incident since it occurred. All relief agencies have provided necessary assistance and are working tirelessly in the rescue effort, he said.
