Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in regular contact with students in Pakistan, India amid tensions

Kathmandu, May 11 (UNI) Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that it is in regular contact with students studying in Pakistan and India, amid the heightened tensions.

In a statement, the ministry stated that the government is fully aware of the recent developments and is working to ensure the safety of Nepali nationals in Pakistan. The Nepali Embassy in Pakistan is in regular contact with the students and Nepalis in the country.

Meanwhile, the ministry has also urged Nepali students and their parents to contact the Nepali Embassy in Islamabad for any immediate assistance, reports Nepal News.

Similarly, the Nepali Embassy in India has urged Nepalis to remain alert and safe, after identifying the nearest location of safety and emergency services in case of an emergency.

Some Nepali students studying in Pakistan urged the government to rescue them. According to the Nepali Embassy in Pakistan, all of around 100 Nepali students there are safe, according to The Kathmandu Post.

Sumana Shrestha, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), shared an email from a student on her social media account, describing the state of tensions.

Based on the email, Shrestha sent a letter to Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba describing the situation of Nepali students in Pakistan.

Another RSP lawmaker Shishir Khanal urged immediate evacuation of 80 Nepali students currently studying in Pakistan.

Nepal had condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 tourists, including one Nepali national, were killed.
