Former Pakistan First Lady Bushra Bibi approaches IHC seeking better facilities in Adiala Jail

Former Pakistan First Lady Bushra Bibi approaches IHC seeking better facilities in Adiala Jail

Islamabad, Apr 7 (UNI) Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder and former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has moved a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking better facilities at the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where she is currently incarcerated alongside her husband on corruption charges.

Approaching the IHC through her lawyers, Bushra Bibi filed a petition requesting the court to direct jail authorities to provide improved amenities under the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978, according to The Express Tribune.

In her plea, the former First Lady stated that she had resided in the Prime Minister House during her husband's tenure and, owing to her previous lifestyle and public status, she and her husband were legally entitled to certain comforts and facilities in prison.

The petition alleged that despite submitting a formal request to the Adiala Jail superintendent, no action was taken. Moving her petition forward, she asked the court to instruct the authorities to fulfil their legal responsibilities in a similar manner.

Bushra Bibi has named the federal government, the superintendent of Adiala Jail, and the chief commissioner of Islamabad as respondents in the case.

Bushra Bibi, once a very powerful figure in the Pakistan government under Imran Khan’s tenure as PM, wielded a lot of influence in administrative affairs. She and Khan were jailed on charges of high-level corruption in the Al Qadir Trust case, resulting in the loss of pounds 190 million.

However, despite being jailed, she continues to enjoy massive popularity among both the members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) as well as its supporters, alongside Imran Khan, thus remaining a prominent authority in the now Opposition party’s political affairs.
