PM Modi, Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohd Yunus to hold bilateral talks today

Dhaka/New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus in Bangkok today on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit between 12.00pm–12:30 pm (BST), following a request from Dhaka.
The news was given by the CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam to reporters, reported Bangladesh Business Standard.
The two leaders met for the first time in-person yesterday, during a formal dinner hosted by Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and were seen sitting side by side.
Other BIMSTEC leaders at the dinner included Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli, Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay, and Myanmar's top leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The meeting between PM Modi and Mohd Yunus would mark the first highest level bilateral talks between the two countries since Yunus took office in August last year, following the ouster of then PM Sheikh Hasina on August 5, amidst a "student-led" mass uprising.

Ties between the two sides have seen a marked downward slide since the army-backed Interim Government led by Yunus came into power, due to the strong anti-India stance of many of his advisors, violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, and the rise of Islamic extremism.
One of the key issues of contention between India and Bangladesh has been Dhaka's request for deportation of Hasina who fled to India after her ouster, as New Delhi has maintained silence on the issue.
