Moscow, Mar 5 (UNI) Four militants have been neutralised during a counterterrorism operation in the Russian republic of Dagestan, the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the administration of Makhachkala, the republic's capital, imposed the counterterrorism operation regime in the town of Semender after perpetrators opened fire on road patrol officers. Then they tried to flee and ended up blocked on the outskirts of the town.
"As a result of a counterterrorism operation conducted by the National Anti-Terrorism Committee on the night of March 5 in Dagestan, four bandits who were planning to commit a terrorist act at a regional facility of the Russian Interior Ministry in [the city of] Kaspiysk were neutralised. Grenade launchers, improvised explosive devices, grenades, automatic rifles, a pistol, and ammunition were found at the site of the clash and in a nearby cache of ammunition," the committee said in a statement.
The group's activities were coordinated by the Islamic State terrorist group (IS or ISIS, banned in Russia), the statement read, adding that there have been no casualties or injuries among the civilian population or law enforcement personnel.
