Path to peaceful negotiations with India will involve resolution of water, Kashmir issues: Pak PM Sharif on ceasefire

Islamabad, May 10 (UNI) Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in an address to the nation on Saturday night following the ceasefire agreement with India, said the path to peaceful negotiations with New Delhi would involve the resolution of all issues, including water and Jammu and Kashmir.
“We fully believe that the path of peaceful negotiations in line with the principles of justice will be adopted to solve the distribution of water resources and resolution of all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.”
However, India has said that the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was only specific to stoppage of firing and military action and there was “no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place”.
He also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump, as well as leaders of the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and China and other “brotherly nations” who played a constructive role in facilitating a ceasefire with India.
He also thanked his older brother, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz founder and also former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
“I would like to especially thank former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his sagacious leadership throughout the conflict, and President Asif Zardari for his consultations,” Shehbaz Sharif concluded.
Separately, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that not only did the international community stand with Pakistan amid tensions with India, but it “even praised our stance throughout the crisis”.
Speaking to Geo News, Asif noted that over the last several days, some countries demonstrated a clear tilt towards Pakistan.
“Turkiye, Azerbaijan and China are on our side, while Saudi Arabia and the UAE tilted towards us. It was muted, but in our communications, they were sympathetic to Pakistan,” he said.
Khawaja Asif said that when the conversations between Pakistan and India start after the ceasefire, the three major issues that will be discussed are the abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty, Kashmir and terrorism.
“These are the three major issues that can be discussed as of now,” he told Geo News.
In New Delhi, source said:
“The stoppage of firing and military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries.
“The Pak DGMO initiated the call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understanding reached.
“There is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place.”
