No one, however high, can be above law : Stalin on SC's historic verdict

Chennai, Apr 18 (UNI) Apparently referring to Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar's remarks

on the Supreme Court setting time frame for President to take decisions on a plea filed by

Tamil Nadu over the delay in Governor granting assent to Bills passed in the State Assembly,

Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin said “no one, however high, can be above the

law.”

In a social media post, he said the SC's historic verdict on course correction has rattled many

anti-democratic forces as it was a step towards resetting the process.

He said the need of the hour was to ensure that this reset is implemented in its true spirit.

"More than 75 years have passed since we adopted our Constitution. The current malaise

stems from the politicisation of constitutional offices, including Governors, the Vice-President

and even the President, to undermine opposition governments and inject right-wing narratives

into public discourse", he said.

"In a democracy, governments are to be run by elected representatives, not by ceremonial

appointees", he said.

"No one, however high, can be above the law", he noted.

"The same has been pointed out by our Hon’ble Supreme Court, and its historic judgement

is a step towards resetting the process", Mr Stalin said.

"Hence, it is understandable that this welcome course correction has rattled many anti-democratic

forces", he said .

"The need of the hour is to ensure that this reset is implemented in its true spirit', he added.
