Odisha CM inaugurates 100-seat medical college, 650-bedded hospital in Phulbani

Bhubaneswar, June 7 (UNI) The long-awaited health services for the people of Kandhamal have finally been realized with the inauguration of a 100-seat government medical college and a 650-bedded hospital in Phulbani, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
During his visit to Kandhamal district on Saturday, Majhi inaugurated the medical college and hospital and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth about Rs. 750 crore aimed at the district’s growth.
“The long-cherished hopes of the people of Kandhamal have been fulfilled, and their dream of accessing better health services has come true,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the gathering on the occasion.
He emphasized that the new medical college will not only offer medical education but also ensure quality healthcare services. It will catalyze significant changes in the lives of people in the surrounding areas.
“This 650-bedded government medical college and hospital will mark a new chapter in healthcare not only for Kandhamal district but for the entire state,” Majhi said.
He further remarked that in the last 24 years, health infrastructure in Odisha had been neglected under the guise of ‘universal service,’ but the government is now working to improve it and ensure better and more comprehensive healthcare.
Majhi asserted that there will be no shortage of doctors in Odisha within the next year, and sufficient numbers of doctors will be posted in every hospital to ensure quality healthcare services.
He said that the current budget has allocated Rs. 23,635 crore exclusively for healthcare services, accounting for 8.2 percent of the total budget — the highest in the history of the state.
The Chief Minister noted that this hospital will benefit not only the residents of Kandhamal but also those from neighboring districts such as Nayagarh, Boudh, and Kalahandi. He expressed hope that it will also act as a powerful driver for local employment, research, and economic development.
Majhi also stated that the state government is focusing on promoting tourism in Daringbadi, known as the ‘paradise of Odisha’ for its natural beauty.
He announced that a project worth Rs. 18 crore has been approved, and tenders have been invited for the development of tourism in Daringbadi. Additionally, Rs. 4.5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the Putudi waterfall.
Besides these, other tourist destinations in Kandhamal will also be developed, he added.
