Odisha has created special identity in sports globally: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19 (UNI) Odisha has created a special identity for itself in the field of sports at the global level, State Sports Minister Suryavansi Suraj said on Wednesday.
Felicitating the successful sportspersons who won medals in various sports competitions at a function here on Wednesday, Suraj said “Our sportspersons are our pride and glory.”
Odisha's sportspersons, he said, have made the state proud through their outstanding performance in various sports competitions.
In today's programme, about 165 sportspersons in 24 sports categories were given prizes worth more than Rs. 66 lakhs.
A total of 24 sports persons have been felicitated with prize money including athletics, chess, cycling, hockey, karate, kho kho, roll ball, rugby, shooting, soft ball, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, pentathlon, weightlifting, wushu, triathlon, para-judo and para-swimming .
Along with this, 8 mountaineers (each mountaineer) have also been felicitated with prize money.
Speaking on the occasion, Suraj said "Our goal is to develop sports infrastructure and sports talent at the grassroots level and to develop sports talent from every block and every village of Odisha". UNI DP SSP
