Odisha Vigilance arrests lady ASI for taking bribe

Bhubaneswar, June 4 (UNI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police from the Mahila Police Station in Berhampur has been arrested by Odisha Vigilance for accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000
from a complainant to help him in a domestic violence case.
According to Odisha Vigilance sources, Babita Suna, ASI of Police at the Mahila Police Station in Berhampur, was apprehended by Vigilance officials for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a complainant.

The bribe was allegedly taken to help the complainant and his mother, who were involved in a domestic violence case registered earlier at the same police station.
The ASI, who was the Investigating Officer in the case, had allegedly threatened to arrest the complainant unless the demanded bribe was paid. Finding no other way, the complainant
reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.
Based on the complaint, a trap was laid on Wednesday, and ASI Babita Suna was caught by a team of Odisha Vigilance inside the Mahila Police Station campus while taking the bribe.
Vigilance sources said the entire bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the lady ASI and seized in the presence of witnesses. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were carried out at Suna’s government quarters in Berhampur.
The ASI has been arrested and will be forwarded to court. Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
