One thousand high-yielding cows inducted under Go-Palan Yojana in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 6 (UNI) In a significant move to boost dairy productivity under the Go-Palan Yojana (GPY), around 1,000 high milk-yielding cows have been inducted into Odisha over the past three months.
This initiative, which supports farmers in acquiring superior dairy breeds, has gained momentum with cattle being sourced from other states—primarily Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu.
The Go-Palan Yojana aims to transform the livelihoods of small-scale dairy farmers by facilitating the procurement of cows that yield a minimum of 10 litres of milk per day, with a subsidy of up to 70 percent on the project cost.
By engaging private suppliers and allowing farmers to select cows of their choice, officials have ensured transparency and better outcomes for beneficiaries.
With high-quality cows now reaching remote areas, the program is emerging as a game-changer for Odisha’s dairy economy.
The Go-Palan Yojana (GPY), implemented under the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana (MKY), is not only achieving high cow induction rates but also enabling faster subsidy disbursal, with district authorities releasing funds within 7 to 10 days of project completion.
This swift execution is encouraging youth, traditional cattle keepers, and livestock enthusiasts across the state to adopt dairy farming with greater confidence.
Kandhamal district has set a benchmark in project implementation, becoming the first to complete GPY projects for three beneficiaries—all of whom are women dairy farmers.
