Opposition AIADMK, BJP walks out of TN Assembly, boycotts budget speech

Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) The main Opposition AIADMK and the BJP staged a walk out

from the Tamil Nadu Assembly over the recent ED raids on state-owned TASMAC and

distilleries that unearthed Rs 1,000 crore irregularities on Friday.

They also boycotted the State budget presented by Finance Minister Thangam

Thennarasu on the opening day of the session today.

Later, talking to reporters outside the Assembly premises, Leader of the Opposition

and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami cited the recent ED raids

in Tasmac that revealed irregularities to the tune of over Rs 1,000 crore and demanded

the resignation of the DMK government.

He said the AIADMK members staged a walkout as Speaker M. Appavu refused

permission to raise this issue as well as the no-confidence motion against him.

BJP members too staged a walk out.

Talking to newsmen, BJP floor leader Nainar Nagendran said sought to raise the

ED Tasnmac raids and the State government’s decision replacing the Indian Rupee

symbol with Tamil letter in Budget document and staged a walk out.

TASMAC scam in bigger than Delhi liquor scam, alleges Annamalai

Bengaluru, Mar 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai on Friday launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, alleging that corruption in the state-run liquor corporation, TASMAC, was "bigger than the Delhi liquor scam."
He accused the ruling party of financial mismanagement and demanded that Chief Minister MK Stalin address the issue in the Assembly.
"The TASMAC issue is of grave concern. We believe the Chief Minister should answer for it in the Assembly, even during the budget session. This scandal is bigger than the Chhattisgarh case or even the Delhi liquor scam. That is why we walked out of the Assembly, just like other political parties, including the AIADMK, which also staged a walkout for various reasons.

Kerala: Young woman held in POCSO case

Kannur, Mar 14 (UNI) A 23-year-old young woman was arrested in a POCSO case for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in Kerala's Kannur district on Friday, police said.According to the police, Sneha Merlin (23) was arrested in Taliparamba town following a complaint lodged by the victim's parents.The school teachers got suspicious of the girl's behaviour and seized a mobile phone that contained a vulgar video from her school bag.Teachers conducted counselling for her and the girl revealed the trauma that she went through over the last one month. They alerted her parents and Childline and this led to arrest.The young woman is a repeat offender and she allegedly abused a 14-year-old boy earlier and also was purportedly involved in an assault case.
