Over 3000 athletes participate in Jammu Marathon

Jammu, Mar 16 (UNI) More than 3000 athletes on Sunday participated in Jammu Marathon "Run for Fun" organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme here at Gulshan Ground.

With more than 3000 athletes from across various states and regions participated in the marathon that saw an overwhelming turnout from individuals of all ages, including school children, veterans and fitness enthusiasts.

The marathon covered a variety of distances across nine categories, catering to diverse participants while the event included routes ranging from a 21-km run from Gulshan Ground to Hill View Honda near Bajalta Crossing, to shorter runs of 10-km, 5-km, 4-km, and 2-km designed for different age groups and levels of competition.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed, Anand Jain in his speech, highlighted the long-standing commitment of J&K Police in serving the community through programs like the Civic Action Programme.

He thanked all the officers, sports authorities, and agencies for their role in ensuring the success of the event and emphasized the need to involve more youth in such activities to help them stay engaged in positive pursuits.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including M.K. Sinha, Additional Director General of Police, Headquarters and Coordination PHQ, J&K, who was the chief guest at the event.

Along with the Chief Guest, senior police officers and retired officials distributed medals, certificates, and cash prizes worth Rs. 1,84,000 among the winners across various categories.

Sinha, during his address, expressed his appreciation for the massive participation of athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir, as well as from other states.

He emphasized that such events are crucial in fostering community engagement and in keeping the youth away from harmful activities like drugs. He stressed the importance of continued sports initiatives in the future.

As per the results, in 21-km Half Marathon (Men) first place was wondering by Manjit Singh (Ferozpur, Punjab) followed by Gurcharan Singh (R.S. Pura, Jammu) and Ravi Das (Ram Nagar, Udhampur).

In 10,km Road Race (Women, 18 plus) category, Savita Paul (UP), Veerpal Kour (Punjab) and Shamshada Bano (Balicharana, Jammu) won first, second and third positions respectively.

In 10-km Road Race (Boys, Under 18), Parveen Kumar (Chenani, Udhampur) won first place, Vibhum Panday (Sainik School, Nagrota) won second and Ankit Kumar (Ludhiana, Punjab) won third place.

In10-km Junior Road Race (Girls, Under 18), Sulekha secured first place, Mehak Nishad and Sania Choudhary won second and third places respectively, in 10-km Veterans Race (Women, 45 plus), Manminder Kour (Trikuta Nagar, Jammu) stood first, Tina Sahi (Jammu) stood second and Seema Kharyal (Gangyal, Jammu) stood third.

In 10-km Veterans Race (Men, 45 plus), Joga Singh (Ludhiana, Punjab), Ram Raj (Pathyal, Jammu) and Parshotam Lal (Lakshmi Nagar, Muthi, Jammu) won first, second and third positions.

In 5-km Sub Junior Race (Boys, Under 14), Mohd Fareed (Rajouri) won first place, Ummar Shoukat (Nagrota, Jammu) won second place and Rahik Manhas (Katra, Reasi) won third place, in 4-km Sub Junior Race (Girls, Under 14), Komal (Gujjar Nagar, Jammu), Eleena Singh (Old Janipur, Jammu) and Shabu Devi (Katra, Reasi) secured first, second and third positions respectively.

In 2-km Run for Fun (Open for All, Senior Citizens, Men, Women, & Children), Youngest Female: Nanshika Rajput (5 years old), Youngest Male: Priyansh Singh Saini (4 years old), Oldest Female: Amrit Kour (63 years old) and Oldest Male: Angrez Singh (72 years old) were the winners.

The marathon was flagged off by Anand Jain, ADGP Armed Police J&K, along with other dignitaries, including Sarah Rizvi, DIG IRP Jammu, Shiv Kumar, DIG JSK Range, Rajesh Kumar, SSP Security Jammu, and Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu, Dalip Kumar, SSP, SO to ADGP Armed along with senior officers from the Jammu-based battalions.

The Jammu Marathon-2025 is part of the J&K Police’s ongoing efforts to promote fitness, foster community spirit, and encourage healthy lifestyles among the youth.

Through such events, J&K Police aims to continue its efforts in engaging the community, building strong bonds with the public, and ensuring the active participation of citizens in activities that promote peace and well-being, said the officer.
