Chandigarh, May 5 (UNI) Ahead of Tuesday's farmer protests at the Shambhu border police station, Punjab police on Monday detained some farmer leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal.
A video, on social media X, suggests that the veteran farmer leader has been placed under house arrest. Sources said that some other farmer leaders have also been either detained or are being placed under house arrest.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that farmers won't be allowed to "harass" common people.
He wrote on 'X' that any announcements, protests or strikes that block roads or trains or harass the common people and disrupt their daily activities in Punjab will be considered against the public.
He added that all institutions, organisations and unions should pay attention. There were other ways to protest, it was not right to just harass people. "Otherwise, be ready for strict legal action," the CM threatened.
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) have announced they will surround the Shambhu border police station on Tuesday to protest against the March 19 Punjab police's crackdown on farmers to end their agitation after detaining hundreds of farmers/farmer leaders as soon as their meeting with Union as well as Punjab ministers had ended.
On the same night, both protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri borders were also cleared.
