Punjab: Kang alleges Union Minister Bittu "over concerned" about giving water to Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 30 (UNI) Senior leader of Punjab's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Malvinder Singh Kang on Wednesday hit out at Union Minister Ravneet Bittu, asking whether he backed Punjab on the water issue and why he was "so concerned" about providing water to Haryana.
Kang also asked BJP leader Bittu why he was upset when Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann spoke about his state's right over its water. He suggested that instead of targeting Punjab, Bittu should advise Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to use their water resources more efficiently, as the neighbouring state has already received its due share of water. He pointed out that Punjab itself faces a shortage of water and questioned how it could supply more water to Haryana. He said, "If you are so concerned about the people of Haryana, provide them with drinking water instead of irrigation water. If you wish to give more water, then speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and arrange for the water that has been blocked from flowing into Pakistan to be redirected to Haryana".He further added that instead of questioning CM Mann, Bittu should quiz his own central leadership and PM Modi on why the central government is "continuously conspiring" to weaken Punjab’s representation in the BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) and its rights.Kang accused Bittu of having no genuine concern for the people of Punjab, claiming that his only priority is securing his political position. He alleged that Bittu also "spoke against Punjab’s rights" only to safeguard his ministerial post, even if it meant supporting the central government's efforts to "weaken" the state or "encroach" on its rights.Kang claimed that Bittu was more focused on "pleasing his high command" than standing up for Punjab. He declared that as long as the AAP government was in power and Bhagwant Mann remained the Chief Minister, they would continue to fight for Punjab's rights. He said anyone working against Punjab's interests would face strong resistance from the state's AAP government. UNI GS SSP
