Punjab: SGPC initiative for shelter, langar in Gurdwaras amidst India-Pak tensions

Amritsar, May 7 (UNI) Amidst growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the representative body of the Sikh community, has taken the initiative to provide shelter in Gurdwara inns (Sarais) for people being displaced from border areas.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Wednesday directed that arrangements
be made for accommodation and 'langar' (community meals) at historic gurdwaras located
in border regions for such people.
SGPC Secretary Partap Singh, while sharing details, said that due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, it has been decided to offer both shelter and food at SGPC-managed gurdwaras for the affected residents of border areas.
He further said that under the directives of President Adv Dhami, the managers of various gurdwaras in Amritsar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Husaniwala and Ferozpur, have been instructed to make these arrangements.
