Russia deeply regrets resumption of military operation in Gaza – Foreign Ministry

Moscow, Mar 18 (UNI) Moscow deeply regrets that the military operation in the Gaza Strip has resumed and strongly condemns any actions leading to deaths of civilians and destruction of social infrastructure, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that it was carrying out massive airstrikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli prime minister’s office said that the country had resumed attacks on Gaza Strip in response to Hamas’ refusal to accept the US plan to extend the ceasefire regime and continue the release of hostages. According to the latest data from Gaza's health ministry, more than 400 people have been killed and more than 500 injured in the latest strikes.
"Moscow deeply regret the resumption of Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip. Experience has shown that settling the issue of the hostages’ release with the use of force is impossible. Russia strongly condemns any actions leading to deaths of civilians and destruction of social infrastructure," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry has also urged both Israel and Palestine to return to negotiations aimed at the development of a compromise solution to the problem of hostage release which would eventually ensure long-term normalization in the Gaza Strip and would help to launch a full-scale reconstruction of the enclave.
