SCR achieves record revenue of Rs 501.72 cr from scrap sales in FY 2024-25

Hyderabad, Apr 2 (UNI) South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a significant milestone in its ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ initiative by generating a record-breaking revenue of Rs 501.72 crore through the sale of scrap during the financial year 2024-25.

This marks the highest-ever revenue from scrap sales in the zone's history.

SCR has surpassed the target of Rs 430 crore set by the Railway Board for the financial year and recorded a notable increase from the Rs 411.39 crore revenue achieved in 2023-24. The zone has been at the forefront of resource optimization by effectively mobilizing scrap sales through e-auctions conducted via the Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS) portal, a SCR statement said on Wednesday.

The e-auction process has enhanced transparency and promoted competitive bidding among participants across India, ensuring a paperless transaction in line with the Digital India initiative. This system has also eliminated middlemen, who were previously involved in manual auctions, leading to greater participation and fewer grievances from purchasers.

The Materials Management Department of SCR has played a key role in implementing ‘Mission Zero Scrap’, ensuring that no scrap accumulates for more than a month or beyond a truckload quantity.

This initiative has helped in cleaning up workshops, railway units, and premises, converting every scrap item into a financial resource for the exchequer. It has also significantly contributed to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the Government of India.

Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR, congratulated the Materials Management Department officials and staff for their commendable efforts in achieving this milestone.

He highlighted the transformative impact of e-auctions in enhancing transparency and streamlining business operations.

He also emphasized that the digital approach has bridged the gap between the Railways and bidders.

Encouraging further progress, Jain urged officers and staff to continue their efforts and strive for even greater achievements in the future.
