Mumbai, May 13 (UNI) Erasing huge gains of Monday, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday heavily down 1281.68 pts to settle at 81,148.22 on profit booking by local operators amid selling was seen across the board.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) declined 346.35 pts to 24,578.35.
The equity market, which surged 4 per cent on Monday, however, lost one per cent today.
The day opened on a negative note at 82,249.60, falling 180 pts.
During the day, it dropped 1386 pts at 81,043.69, day's low, before closing at 81,148.22, tumbling down 1281.68 pts from its previous close.
It registered day's high at 82,572.81, up 143 pts.
The Nifty registered a day's high at 24,973.80 and a low at 24,547.59 pts.
All stocks were seen under pressure, however, Technology, Focussed IT, and Utilities dragged the market.
Focussed IT slipped by 2.44 pc, Technology by 2.39 pc, IT by 2.21 pc, and Utilities by 1.35 pc.
The mid-cap and small-cap outperformed, as the mid-cap rose 0.17 pc and Small cap by 0.99 pc.
In 30 scripts, 5 advanced while 25 declined.
In scrips, Infosys remained negative throughout the session as it fell 3.57 pc to Rs 1568.60, followed by Eternal by 3.48 pc to Rs 231.50, Powergrid by 3.22 pc to Rs 299.10, and HCL Technologies by 2.94 pc to Rs 1620.50.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 0.99 pc to Rs 1703, Adani Ports by 0.46 pc to Rs 1369.20, Bajaj Finance by 0.28 pc to Rs 9042, and SBI by 0.05 pc to Rs 802.
The US Market and the European market were seen as strong.
Asian Market also increased as Straits Times was up by 0.13 pc, Kospi by 0.04 pc, and Set Composite was 0.28 pc.
