Servitors leave for Cuttack to saw logs for chariot construction

Puri, Apr 6 (UNI) A four-member team of servitors of Puri's iconic Jagannath Temple on Sunday left for Khapuria sawmill, Cuttack, carrying the ritualistic Ajnamallya (permission) from the deitiess to initiate the sawing of the timber logs for construction of chiariots for the annual rathyatra (car festival).
As per tradition, three chariots would be used in the annual car ceremony of lord Jagannath and His siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra.
The sawing begins after the permission from the deities are served to the servitors. The sawing begins with three Dhaura logs placed in the mill for sawing.
Construction of the three chariots will begin on Akshyaya Tritiya day in the construction yard, located in front of the Jagannath Temple office here. UNI XC BD SSP
