Chandigarh, May 7 (UNI) In a tragic accident, seven school children and a school van driver were killed when a tipper truck hit the van in Samana of Patiala district in Punjab, police said on Wednesday.
Sources said that the ill-fated vehicle was carrying children back to their home when the incident occurred.
The van was carrying 12 children when the accident took place. Three children are injured and admitted to hospital in critical condition, while two have been discharged from hospital.
Police as well as administration have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.
The impact of the collision was such that the school van was damaged badly. The children were being taken out from the bus with the help of a JCB.
The injured have been admitted to Samana civil hospital.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed grief over the incident. He wrote
on X that the incident was unfortunate.
He said that the administration was on the spot and he was being updated as regards to relief and rescue operations. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
