Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Seven women labourers were killed and three injured when a tractor carrying them plunged into a well in Nanded Taluka in Maharashtra on Friday, officials said.
According to details, the incident occurred at 7 am as the tractor was transporting male and female workers from Alegaon to Runj to harvest groundnuts.
When villagers came to know about the incident, they acted swiftly to rescue the injured.
Talking to UNI, Collector of Nanded Rahul Kardile said the rescue operation is over and bodies have been sent for post- mortem. The injured are being treated in government hospital.
He also said the well was open from all sides, and action would be taken against the land owner.
Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar said the driver of the tractor was reportedly a minor, and therefore an action against him will also be taken as well as the owner of the tractor.
Meanwhile, chief minister Devendar Fadnavis announced Rs Five lakh financial aid the kin of the deceased.
