Shillong Citizens’ Forum to hold protest against Pahalgam terror attack

Shillong, Apr 26 (UNI) The Shillong Citizens’ Forum (SCF) would hold a candlelight vigil on Sunday and also urged the business community to down shutters on Monday in protest against the terror attack that killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The candlelight vigil would be held from 5 to 7 pm near the old Assembly building at Police Bazar.
“All peace-loving citizens of greater Shillong, irrespective of caste, community, or religion, are invited to participate and share their views during the meeting,” SCF Convener Pawan Bajoriya said while “strongly condemn this barbaric act perpetrated by the terrorist group.”
Bajoriya said the forum would also submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah through the Governor and Chief Minister of Meghalaya, demanding strong and decisive action against those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.
Meanwhile, the Shillong’s business community have extended their support for the proposed shutdown on Monday.
“This attack on our fellow citizens, who were simply enjoying the beauty of our nation, cannot be tolerated. We demand the strictest possible action against those responsible,” the business committee said.
The Shillong’s business community has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “brutal and cowardly act of violence against innocent tourists.”
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya unit of the BJP, which was amongst the first in the state to organise a protest against the senseless killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam has extended its full support to the programs of Shillong Citizens Forum.
“Our party considers it a sacred duty to contribute towards any movement that strengthens national unity. We all feel the grief of families who have lost dear ones in this bastardly act of terrorism; this wanton act of murder cannot go unpunished,” Wankitbok Pohshna, the State BJP General Secretary, said.
While supporting the Shillong Citizens Forum’s shutters down call to all business establishments in Greater Shillong area , the BJP, however requested the forum that micro businesses be left out of its purview to avoid losses to financially weaker sections of our community.
