Shimla Bar Association condemns MLA Bhavani Singh Pathania’s remarks on lawyers

Shimla, Mar 25 (UNI) Congress MLA Bhavani Singh Pathania has come under fire for his remarks in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday, when he alleged that lawyers help drug traffickers (Chitta peddlers) evade justice.
Speaking during a discussion on the drug menace, Pathania called for action against such lawyers, even suggesting an investigation into who pays their fees and the source of those funds.
The statement has drawn sharp criticism from the Shimla Bar Association, with its president Niranjan Verma calling it irresponsible and inappropriate. The association has demanded an apology, asserting that such comments malign the legal profession and undermine the fundamental right to a fair trial, as guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.
