SKorean military partly resumes live-fire drills after bomb misdrop incident – Reports

Seoul, Mar 18 (UNI) The South Korean military has partially resumed military drills, including live firing, after suspending them due to the accidental bombing of civilian homes on March 6, the Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday, citing the South Korean Defense Ministry.
On March 6, two KF-16 jets dropped a total of eight MK-82 bombs outside of a training range, some 26 miles from Seoul, one of which landed in the village of Nogok. According to the latest information, 38 people were injured in the incident, including 24 civilians.
The ministry reportedly intends to resume drills involving the use of rifles and small arms in operational units and training camps. The resumption, however, excludes training grounds in the Pocheon area, the news agency said.
Live-fire drills involving machine guns, tanks and artillery will be resumed gradually, while those involving aviation and those in the Pocheon area will be held when the situation is fully stabilized and the air force takes preventive measures to avoid similar incidents, Yonhap said.
Meanwhile, the South Korean air force has announced the resumption of flights from the Kunsan Air Base, where the jets involved in the incident took off from.
The preliminary investigation results showed that the pilots entered wrong latitude coordinates of the target and ignored the three-step verification procedure. Meanwhile, the commanders were suspected of failing to fulfill their duties to check and order the live firing, the news agency reported, adding that it remains unclear whether the coordinates were misread or misheard.
