Snowfall or rain continue in HP, Orange alert in few places

Shimla, Mar 15 (UNI) The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh have been experiencing light to moderate snowfall since Friday night.
The Indian Meteorological Department also issued an orange alert for heavy snowfall and rain in a few places in the above areas and disruptions of normal life owing to the prevailing inclement weather.
The administration issued a travel advisory, particularly for computers near the Atal Tunnel's North and South portals in Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi, and Bharmour of Chamba district.
"In the past 24 hours, Kotkhai received 16.1 mm of rain, while Kufri and Manali recorded 12.0 mm and 8.0 mm, respectively. Kukumseri and Keylong received 4.2 cm and 2.0 cm of snowfall. "
"The minimum temperatures recorded were: Shimla 5.6°C, Kalpa 1.2°C, Keylong minus 2.1°C, and Kukumseri minus 2.6°C." IMD said in a weather bulletin today.
In a tragic incident, a 37-year-old man, Sham Singh, fell from the roof of his two-story house in Pangi while removing snow. He was carried in a palanquin for six kilometres in the snow and then taken to a hospital by car. His family has requested a helicopter for further medical assistance.
The district administration has advised against unnecessary travel, except in emergencies. Intermittent snowfall has caused a drop in temperatures, with electricity outages reported in several areas.
Despite the snowfall, vehicular movement continues through the Atal Tunnel between Manali and Keylong. However, a heavy landslide on the Urei-Sambra road in Chamba district has halted traffic, damaging a newly built bridge.
Minimum temperatures of Shimla 5.6 degrees, Bhuntar (airport) 8.4, Kalpa 1.2, Una and Nahan 11 degrees, Keylong minus 2.1, Solan nine, Manali 5.2 degrees, Kangra 13.2, Mandi 12.6, Bilaspur 14.2, Chamba 10.4, Dalhousie 5.5 and Jubberhatti (airport) nine degrees.
The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall at most places on March 15, with a yellow alert for heavy rain and snowfall in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, and Shimla.
Light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected at many places on March 16, with isolated spells likely to continue until March 20. The weather is expected to clear from March 21.
The fresh spell of rain and snowfall is expected to benefit Rabi crops and help maintain temperatures before the flowering season begins. However, the administration has issued an avalanche alert for areas above 2,800 meters in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti.
