Seoul, Apr 10 (UNI) Lee Jae-Myung, South Korea's former opposition leader, announced his bid on Thursday for the presidential election, which is scheduled in June, according to the Korea Herald.
This came a day after he resigned from the chairmanship of the Democratic Party.
In a 10-minute video message, Lee said, "I do not just want a country that only carries the name 'Republic of Korea' but I want to help build a real Republic of Korea."
"Such a Korea is created by its people and I hope to become a great tool, the best tool, of our people," he added.
Last Friday, former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was ousted by the Constitutional Court, upholding South Korea's Parliament's impeachment motion against him.
In 2022, Lee lost the presidential race to Yoon by a thin margin.
