Start Balika Panchayat to prevent child marriage: Maha Minister Tatkare tells officials

Mumbai, May 13 (UNI) The rate of child marriage is high among migrant labourers and workers. Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said on Tuesday, directing officials to implement an informative and public awareness campaign regarding children's homes in a particular area.
The campaign should ensure that the children of labourers and workers can live in the same place, Tatkare said.
She also gave instructions to start Balika Panchayat for public awareness.
Tatkare was speaking in a review meeting held in the Mantralaya regarding measures to prevent child marriage, getting benefits to beneficiaries of the Child Care Scheme, Widows' Action Team, Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme Help Desk and The Children's Aid Society.
Commissioner Nayana Munde, Deputy Commissioner Rahul More, Deputy Secretary Bhondve, Deputy Secretary Kulkarni and other officers were present on this occasion.
Minister Tatkare said it is necessary to take action towards making the state child marriage-free. A campaign should be implemented to create awareness among the maximum number of people.
Balika Panchayats should be started in secondary schools at the taluka level. Girls of the same age can raise their problems through this medium, so that efforts can be made to prevent child marriage, she said.
She said legal action should be taken against all those responsible for child marriage, including those present at the ceremony. UNI VKB SSP
