Surjewala in Bengaluru to oust CM Siddaramaiah: Vijayendra

Bengaluru, July 2 (UNI) Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa today launched a scathing attack on the Congress leadership, claiming that senior party functionary and AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has stationed himself in Bengaluru to orchestrate Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s removal and install KPCC chief DK Shivakumar in his place.
"Surjewala has not come here to take stock of the deteriorating governance in the state. He is laying the groundwork to seek Siddaramaiah's resignation and preparing the stage for a leadership change," Vijayendra told reporters here.
Citing growing internal unrest within the Congress, Vijayendra pointed to recent statements from party MLAs, including Ramanagara legislator Iqbal Hussain, who claimed that nearly 100 MLAs support Shivakumar's elevation as CM. Similar remarks from senior Congress leaders BR Patil and Raju Kage, he said, reflect that Siddaramaiah has lost the confidence of his own party.
"Infighting has intensified, and horse-trading is already underway. The Governor must take note," he said.
Accusing the Congress of treating Karnataka as a financial reservoir, Vijayendra alleged that Surjewala has turned the state into an "ATM" to fund the Congress high command. "He used to criticise fare hikes of one or two paise. Today, under the Siddaramaiah government, prices have shot up in every sector — electricity, fuel, stamp duty — and farmers are being crushed."
Taking strong exception to the Chief Minister’s recent comments suggesting a possible link between COVID-19 vaccines and multiple heart-attack deaths in Hassan, Vijayendra called the remarks "irresponsible" and said the CM was indulging in baseless speculation. "Instead of such claims, he should order a proper investigation and focus on youth employment and healthcare infrastructure at the district and taluk levels."
On the law and order front, the BJP leader alleged that Hindu activists in Raichur district’s Sindhanur were being threatened, adding that the Congress government had turned a blind eye to rising insecurity.
Vijayendra also slammed Congress leader Priyank Kharge for his remarks on banning the RSS if the party came to power at the Centre. Calling it a "delusional dream," he said, "The RSS is a patriotic organisation. Even Nehru had welcomed its support during the 1962 India-China war."
"The Emergency-era ban imposed by Indira Gandhi was later withdrawn. Speaking against such a nationalist institution is unbecoming of a leader and shows a lack of historical understanding," he said, warning Priyanka to exercise restraint in his public remarks.
