Chennai, June 30 (UNI) With political parties flaying the DMK government of MK Stalin over the custodial death of a 27-year-old temple guard in a jewel theft case in Sivaganga district, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court too came down heavily on the police asking ‘Was he a terrorist to deserve this?”The victim, Ajith Kumar, working as a guard at the famed Bhadrakali Amman temple in Madapuram, died after he was allegedly subjected to brutal assault under illegal custody by a special police team yesterday. Six police personnel have been suspended and a magisterial probe is on into the incident, reviving memories of the horrendous Sattankulam custodial murder of a father son duo in June 2020. And, this is the 24th custodial death in the last four years after the DMK came to power in the state, raising grave concerns about custodial violence remaining entrenched in many police stations across the state.
