Tejashwi slams Nitish govt for failure to check crime

Patna, May 9 (UNI) Senior RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Friday slammed the Nitish Kumar government for its failures to check crimes, particularly against women and girls.

After meeting family members of a 12-year-old girl who was gangraped and murdered, the RJD leader told media that the local police had tried to weaken the case and protect the culprits. It appeared that

postmortem report was also manipulated under the influence of ruling party leaders, he added.

"Two youths were arrested in the case, but they were released on bail as the case against them was weakened by the local police ", RJD leader said, adding that culprits were now threatening the family members of the victim to withdraw the case.

"If ruling party leaders and police are involved in protecting the accused, how can justice be meted out to family members of the victim", he questioned.

"I have accepted the application from parents of the victim and will talk to SP of Purnia and also DGP to ensure justice to them ", Yadav said, adding there was no government worth the name in Bihar and criminals were striking at will.

The RJD leader said his party would make all efforts to ensure justice for the family members of the victim.

Parents of the victim also narrated horrific details of the incident and how they were being threatened by culprits and other influential persons to withdraw the case.

On February 12, the girl while taking her cattle to the field from her home in Purnia was accosted by youths who forcibly took her to a nearby field and raped her. They also caused her grievous injuries when she resisted. The girl ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
