Telangana: 540 Indians rescued from Scam Compounds in Myanmar

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The Government of India has successfully rescued and repatriated 540 Indian nationals who were trapped in cyber scam compounds in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
These individuals were brought back to Delhi in two batches --283 in the first batch and 257 in the second on March 10 and 11, 2025.
Among the rescued Indians, 24 are from Telangana. Fourteen individuals from the first batch reached Hyderabad from Delhi on March 11, while the remaining 10 arrived on March 12, 2025, a statement from DGP office here said on Friday.
Following this development, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) launched a thorough investigation, resulting in the registration of nine cases from 10 victims across different Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPS) in Telangana. As part of the investigation, 15 agents and mediators involved in the scam were identified.
Out of these, eight suspects have been arrested or apprehended, while the remaining suspects are absconding. Five of the absconders are located abroad, and efforts are underway to track them and take appropriate action.
Authorities have urged citizens to exercise extreme caution when considering overseas job offers, particularly those that promise high salaries with minimal qualifications.
They advised that before accepting such offers, individuals should ensure the job offer is verified through official channels like the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) via https://emigrate.gov.in.
Additionally, they recommended obtaining a written agreement from the foreign employer before travel and carefully scrutinizing unusual or vague job descriptions.
"If you or someone you know has been a victim of fraudulent overseas job offers, authorities encourage immediate reporting to 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in."
