Telangana govt under CM Revanth Reddy has set role model for nation: Minister Prabhakar

Hyderabad, May 2 (UNI) Telangana Backward Classes (BC) and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has set a role model for the nation by enacting a landmark law providing 42 percent reservation in political, educational, and employment sectors for Backward Classes.
He said that prior to the legislation, the Telangana government had conducted an empirical study and gathered authentic data. A sub-committee was constituted, the cabinet approved the proposal, and the legislature passed the bill. It was subsequently sent to the Centre for approval. The Governor examined the legal aspects and forwarded it to the President of India.
To express their gratitude on enactment of the law, the Telangana Congress and Backward Classes leaders met with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
Minister Prabhakar said the caste census conducted in Telangana has become a model for the country. Welcoming the Centre’s recent announcement of a nationwide caste census during the 2025 population census, he said the Telangana initiative had clearly set the precedent.
He criticised those who had earlier opposed the caste census but are now attacking the Telangana government’s initiative, stating they were unable to digest the progressive step taken by the state.
"We welcome any decision that supports the welfare of weaker sections across the country," Prabhakar said.
He also urged the Centre to demonstrate its sincerity toward the BC community by approving the law that increases reservations for Backward Classes to 42 per cent in Telangana.
