Tripura Minister criticises CPI-M for appeasement politics

Tripura Minister criticises CPI-M for appeasement politics

Agartala, March 21 (UNI) A day after Tripura's CPI-M state secretary and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury wrote to Governor seeking action against state’s Animal Resources Development and Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das for the latter's Facebook post, Das came down heavily on CPI-M and Congress.
Lashing out at CPI-M, the minister accused them of engaging in appeasement and religion-based politics while ignoring the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh. The controversy erupted after Das posted a statement on social media drawing historical parallels between Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and the present-day political stance of opposition parties.
His post alleged that parties like the CPI(M), Congress, and Samajwadi Party were adopting “Islamic brutality” for electoral gains. Defending his statements, Das said, "I have simply pointed out that certain political parties are competing for the votes of radical elements. This does not mean I am disrespecting any religion."
There are two types of Muslims—those who are nationalists, who respect the Indian flag and uphold the values of unity, and then there are fanatical jihadis who want to wipe out Hindus, Christians, and non-Muslims, he mentioned.
"I stand by my words, and I will not take down my post despite the threats,” Das asserted. However, a couple of FIRs have been registered in North and Unakoti districts against Das for his remark.
The minister also accused Left of selectively addressing global conflicts, claiming that the CPI(M), during its recent party conference in Kerala, refused to discuss attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh but allowed discussions on the situation in Gaza.
“Every day, Hindu families in Bangladesh are facing violence, women are being raped, and temples are being attacked. Yet, these so-called secular leaders do not speak about it. Instead, they focus on international events like Hamas, while turning a blind eye to the suffering of Hindus next door," he observed.
The Left has always worked to erase Hindu culture, history, and traditions. They claim to uphold the Constitution, but their selective outrage exposes their true political motives, Das alleged.
The minister’s statements have sparked a political storm in Tripura, with opposition parties condemning his remarks as divisive and inflammatory.
However, Das remains firm, declaring that he will not retract his words or bow to political pressure.
