Tripura: Police arrest man for abusing his newborn girl child

Agartala, Apr 18 (UNI) Police arrested one Gautam Ghosh, a resident of Daspara in the Khayerpur area of eastern Agartala, on the allegation of child abuse and attempted child trafficking.

According to reports, Gautam Ghosh got married a year back, and a baby girl was born to the couple four months back. However, the mother alleged that Ghosh attempted to sell the baby girl instead of celebrating the arrival of the newborn, as he was not happy with the girl child.

“When I refused, he beat the baby and attempted to kill her, prompting me to flee the house with the child on the first day of the Bengali New Year. I was fearing for the safety of the baby and took shelter in another village. An NGO rescued us and reported the incident to Bodhjungnagar police station,” the mother said.

Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the District Child Protection Unit shifted them to a shelter home in the city. And, police forwarded Gautam to court seeking his remand.
