Two-wheeler industry witnessing tremendous growth: Rajiv Bajaj

Lucknow, Apr 29 (UNI) Managing Director of the country's leading automobile company Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj while praising the improvement in road network and law and order in Uttar Pradesh, said that the growth of the two-wheeler industry in the state in the last 12 months has surprised him.
Bajaj has also termed the large number of women driving two-wheelers in the state as a sign of social change. It may be noted that UP has emerged as a major hub for the two-wheeler market in India, especially in the electric vehicle (EV) segment. In 2024, UP secured the second position after Maharashtra by selling 1,57,631 electric two-wheelers, capturing a market share of 15.74 percent.
Speaking in a podcast, Bajaj Auto MD said, "The growth of the two-wheeler industry in UP over the past 12 months has surprised us. We had heard a lot about the excellent roads and improved law and order here. UP's growth story has truly impressed us."
He said that the large number of women riding two-wheelers in the state is also an indicator of positive social transformation. The UP government has taken several key initiatives to promote the two-wheeler industry, particularly in the electric vehicle segment.
These measures aim to boost the sector, attract investments and generate employment opportunities. As part of these efforts, the state implemented a comprehensive EV Policy in 2022, giving special attention to the two-wheeler sector.
Under this policy, buyers can avail subsidies of up to Rs 5,000 on electric two-wheelers, along with exemptions on registration fees and road tax. Besides, special zones have been developed for EV manufacturing units along the Yamuna Expressway and the Lucknow-Kanpur corridor.
Companies are being offered benefits like subsidies, stamp duty exemptions and SGST reimbursement. Industry giants like Hero, Honda and Ola have shown interest in setting up manufacturing units in UP.
