Hardoi (UP), May 13 (UNI) A 24-year-old girl was shot dead allegedly by a jilted lover in the Mallawan police station area of Hardoi district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that the body of Sangeeta Rajput, a resident of Jarera village in Mallawan police station area, was found with bullet wounds inside the house. "According to the family members, Sangeeta's marriage was fixed and her wedding procession was to come from a village in Bilgram police station area on May 15," they said.
Police sources said that the family members informed that Premchand from Baddapurva village in Kannauj district, the village of the deceased girl's maternal uncle, loved her one-sidedly and had not allowed the girl to get married earlier as well.
"According to the family members, at 3 am, when the family members were sleeping, Premchand and his uncle's son entered the house and started dragging the girl away, when the girl and her mother opposed it, the accused shot the girl on the chest," they said.
Police sources said that when the rest of the family members woke up after hearing the sound of the bullet, they saw both of them running away from the spot.
"The police was informed about the incident immediately. A case has been registered on the complaint of the family members. A team has also been set up to arrest the accused," they said.
