UP govt to expand KCC, 25L new farmers to get credit cards soon

Lucknow, May 7 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government is set to expand the reach of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme in order to boost agricultural income and make farming more profitable, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that for the financial year 2025–26, the state aims to provide KCCs to 25 lakh new farmers, ensuring easier access to timely and affordable credit. "The initiative builds on the success of the previous year, where over 71 lakh farmers across the state were issued KCCs. To meet the new target, the state has directed all Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to expedite the registration and distribution process," they said.
Sources said that the government is prioritising Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana beneficiaries for inclusion in the KCC scheme. "With support from cooperative and commercial banks, the distribution process is being fast-tracked to ensure wider outreach," they said.
Sources said that the central government has also directed all eligible farmers to be connected with KCCs to help them access crop loans and related financial services. "The aim is to eliminate the need for farmers to rely on informal moneylenders by providing institutional credit at low interest rates," they said.
Sources said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised the need to transform agriculture into a profitable venture and uplift the standard of living in rural areas. "The KCC scheme plays a key role in this mission by offering timely financial support to farmers and reinforcing the state's commitment to a self-reliant and prosperous agrarian economy," they said.
Sources said that under the KCC scheme, there has been an increase in the distribution of crop loans. "This scheme provides farmers with the money they need for farming at low interest rates through banks. With this support, farmers can buy better seeds, fertilisers and pesticides. As a result, their crop yield improves, and their income increases," they said.
