Woman sentenced to life for daughter's murder in Banda

Banda (UP), Apr 17 (UNI) A woman was sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 by a local court on Thursday for the murder of her daughter in Girwan area of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, a government counsel said here.
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Sushil Kumar Tiwari said that Ram Murat, a resident of Khurhand village of Girwan police station, used to work in a private job in Noida. "His wife Saroj Singh lived in the village with her daughter Shimpi," he said.
He said that Saroj used to doubt the character of her daughter Shimpi, due to which she often used to beat and torture her daughter Shilpi. "One day, Saroj killed Shimpi and buried the body behind her house. On receiving information about Shimpi missing from home for several days, the police reached the spot and conducted a detailed investigation," he said.
The ADGC said the police exhumed the body in the presence of a Magistrate on May 4, 2020, registered a case of murder against the mother and sent her to jail on May 5. "After a detailed investigation, the police filed a charge sheet in the court on July 31," he said.
He said that based on arguments of the prosecution and the evidence available on record, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (First) Chandrapal II held Saroj guilty and sentenced her to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
