'Breakthrough' in Mumbai Metro Route 7A tunnel in CM’s presence

Mumbai, April 17 (UNI) The ‘breakthrough’ in the 1.65 km long underground tunnel of Metro Route 7A from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (T2) to Andheri East, proposed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, was successfully completed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.
Minister of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLA Parag Alwani, Metropolitan Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Sanjay Mukherjee and Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal were present.
Chief Minister Fadnavis initially learned about the project from the officials.
The underground tunnel is on the downline of Metro 7A. This tunnel will be between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport station and Airport Colony station. This metro connection will be an important milestone for the entire metro network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
With this metro line, Mira-Bhayander and further Vasai-Virar parts of Mumbai Metropolitan Region will be connected with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by metro.
Thane and Navi Mumbai International Airport will also be connected by metro. Over 59 per cent of the work of this metro line has been completed.
The length of this metro line is 3.4 km, of which 0.94 km is elevated and 2.50 km is underground. There will be two stations on this line -- one at Airport Colony on the elevated line and the other at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport underground.
The elevated metro line will be 0.57 km long, the length of the double tunnel is 2.035 km.
The first drive of the downline tunnel began on September 1, 2023. The length of this tunnel is 1.65 km and 1180 rings have been installed for lining. The diameter of the tunnel is 6.35 meters and specially designed precast rings have been used in six areas.
