'We Indians risk our lives to save others': PM Modi hails flydubai captain Smit Machchhar

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Captain Smit Machchhar over a video call on Friday and praised his courage, presence of mind and composure during the mid-air crisis, saying the captain's actions have shown the world that Indians are willing to risk their own lives to save others.
Modi said that despite bleeding from his wounds and barely being able to stand, Machchhar crawled to the cockpit door and opened it, helping save 180 lives, which, he said, showed the captain’s determination.
Modi told him that the nation was grateful to him and praying for his speedy recovery. Machchhar, who averted what could have been a 9/11-style aviation tragedy by foiling an attempt by his co-pilot to crash a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, is recovering at a hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The Prime Minister wished him a speedy recovery and hailed him as a “HERO”, saying his valour had helped save hundreds of lives and avert a major tragedy.
