212 climbers, guides summit Mt. Qomolangma in one day from Nepal side

Kathmandu, May 19 (UNI) A total of 212 climbers and Sherpa guides scaled the world's tallest Mount Qomolangma from the Nepali side on Sunday, an official said on Monday.
"The favorable weather conditions led to the large number of ascents," Pasang Bhote, a representative from Nepal's Department of Tourism, told from the Base Camp.
The department has permitted 468 climbers from 57 countries and regions to summit the
8,848.86-meter-high peak that straddles Nepal and China during the spring climbing season.
A total of 1,168 climbers have been allowed to ascend 27 peaks in Nepal during the spring season which started in April and runs through May. Nine climbers have lost lives by Monday, including two each on Mount Qomolangma and Mount Lhotse, the world's fourth highest at 8,516 meters, Liladhar Awasti, spokesperson for the department, said.
