Lucknow, Sep 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) President Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday responded to opposition parties' allegations regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), saying that in a democracy, the opposition has the right to ask questions, but those making allegations should also provide evidence.
Speaking to reporters here, Rajbhar said that not a single eligible voter's name should be removed from the voter list. If any eligible voter's name is removed from the list, the Election Commission should be informed.
He said, "If you want to protest, do so, but do so democratically. If you are making allegations, then provide evidence."
He questioned the Samajwadi Party and Congress, asking why questions were not raised about the election process when 36 SP MPs and six Congress MPs were elected in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said that if any irregularities are noticed, the opposition should present evidence. Rajbhar said that the public decides in elections, and the Election Commission administers the election process.
He said that opposition parties initially made allegations about EVMs, but when they began winning elections using those same EVMs, the public did not accept those allegations.
Now, questions are being raised about the constitutional election process. He said that a process should be put in place to remove the names of voters who have died or permanently moved from their respective assembly constituencies from the voter list.
He accused the opposition of allegedly using such names for fraudulent voting.
Regarding BSP President Mayawati's demand for ballot papers instead of EVMs, Rajbhar said that winning opposition MPs and MLAs should first resign from their posts and then question the election process.
He also claimed that Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad won the election because the nomination of the Congress candidate was rejected.
Rajbhar, responding to allegations of nepotism, said that if a member of a family is elevated to a position solely based on a relationship, it could be considered nepotism, but if someone has been working for the party for a long time and is given responsibility, it cannot be called nepotism.
He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is a party with a strong organization among the people.
He also targeted the opposition alliance, saying that the parties within it have differences on various issues.
On the issue of Waqf properties, Rajbhar said that the Samajwadi Party will understand the situation once the Waqf Board's properties are investigated.
He accused the Samajwadi Party, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party of spreading confusion regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act. He said that these parties had claimed that this law would take away citizenship, but after the law came into effect, they should name anyone who was deported from the country.
Taking aim at SP President Akhilesh Yadav, Rajbhar said, "Akhilesh ji, you are suffering losses."
He also took a dig at the Samajwadi Party's "PDA," saying that those with the "Pariwar (family) Development Authority" are talking about PDA (backwards, Dalit and minorities). He also accused the SP of nepotism regarding the presence of family members in the Lohia Trust.
